The Speaker of Parliament, Ilir Meta was stunned by the news for the arrest of leader of Alliance for Kosovo Future (AKF), Rramush Haradinaj by French authorities.

Through a press release issued on Thursday he informed French authorities that the arrest-warrant on Haradinaj had been issued many years ago by Serbian authorities.

“I was deeply surprised by the news for Haradinaj’s arrest in France. His arrest is based in an old arrest-warrant issued by Serbia a long-time ago. I am confident that French authorities will clarify the senseless circumstances of this arrest and will soon proceed by restoring the AKF leader’s right to free movement,” said the Speaker of Parliament.

He laid the stress on the fact that this was a senseless and unacceptable act that does not help the dialogue and cooperation spirit between Pristina and Belgrade.

Speaker Meta called on the French and EU authorities to clarify their position in relation to this episode and avoid similar episodes in the future.
