BoA Says Remittances Continue to Decline

Data from the Bank of Albania show that the money Albanian citizens working abroad send home to support their families continued to fall in 2016.

According to Central Bank, remittances in first quarter of 2016 were valued at Euro 128 million, down by 10 percent compared with the same period of the previous year.

According to economy experts, the fall in remittances is attributed to the difficulties immigrants face in finding stable employment in the countries where they live as well as to the gradual breaking of the connection with their homeland.

Remittances have been one of the driving forces of the Albanian economy.
