TIRANA – The Minister of Social Welfare and Youth, Blendi Klosi, through a press conference at the premises of the Prime Minister Office, announced on Wednesday the adoption of four decisions related to the scheme of social insurance for pensioners.

“I consider the Council of Minister’s decision to increase the pensions as the most important decision. The Council of Ministers approved on Wednesday the decision to increase pensions based on the price index. The pensions increase will be applied to all categories of pensioners to the extent of 1.6%. The increase is higher than a year ago where pensions were increased by only 1.3% and higher than the price inflation of this year amounting at 1.2%,” Klosi said.

Moreover, Klosi noted that this decision will be implemented starting from August 1, 2016.

Around 635 thousand pensioners will benefit from the pensions increase. 461 thousand pensioners are resident in urban areas and 142 thousand pensioners in rural areas.

Some 32 thousand are early retirement supplementary pensions for ex-military staff, officers and Albanian Guard employees, State Information Service employees, Prison’s Police, Fire Protection Police and Service Employees of the Internal Control of the Republic of Albania as well as special treatments for the former underground workers, military industry, former pilots, former submarine staff, etc.
