High Inspectorate of Declaration of Assets and Conflict of Interests (HIDAACI) Chairman, Shkelqim Ganaj, has ascertained on Thursday that over 50% of judges and prosecutors will not pass vetting process due to wealth issues.
In front of the Parliamentary Committee of Laws and Human Rights, Ganaj warned that half of the justice people, will be fired within the end of this year, and Albania will not have a Constitutional or High Court anymore.
"It turns out that 50% of them are having problems, either for concealment of assets, for false statements, or for cases of conflict of interest. It is a worrying number and extremely high. Only for the share of wealth, as much as we are allowed to do, the figure is reached at 50.1%. The judges of appeal share the highest percentage of the problem. Seeing that the Constitutional Court is out of function, the Supreme Court is in great disadvantage. I think that in the next year, Albania will not have a Court of Appeal if we continue with this trend," said Ganaj.
He added that the wealth of justice people will continue to be the priority of HIDAACI even during 2018, where after the Appeal, the focus is expected to pass to the First Degree of the Judiciary.
