Albania is the country that has benefited less from EU funds for the two key sectors of the economy, transport and energy.
The country that has benefited more investments is Serbia, which in the last three decades has received a total of EUR 5.3 billion from the European Union and the European Investment Bank, which it has used for the construction of roads, ports, railways or power lines.
For the same period, Albania has benefited 10 times less than Serbia from EU grants and soft loans. According to statistics, from the collapse of communism till today, the EU and the EIB have disbursed only EUR 500 million for investment in transport and energy.
All the other countries in the region have taken more, while Albania continues to suffer the lack of capacities and projects, to get the most from the European Union money.
