The Minister of Infrastructure and Energy, Damian Gjiknuri, inspected on Wednesday "Vau Dejes" hydropower plant (HPP), where he stated that discharges will be controlled.
He said that discharges were not the reason of the floods, but the heavy rainfall, and there is no risk of massive flooding as in 2010-2011.
"Floods situation in Sub-Shkoder is not created by HPP but by heavy rainfall. We have a protocol and regulation of dams that is applied with precision. Residents' damages have been made for the past floods even though I did not agree with what was set up after it was uploaded to KESH. Discharges are controlled at 1,400 meters/cubic in seconds. They are mandatory because we are faced with many flows that the cascade has from rainfalls and snow melting. Fierza is at the level of 295 meters, so there will be discharges but no risk of massive flooding as in 2010-2011," said Gjiknuri.
He added that the situation is minimalistic and there is no need for the residents to be alarmed for evacuation because the situation will be normalized and updated as state structures and the public will be informed hour after hour.
