The Chief of Department of Infectious Diseases at the University Hospital Center (QSUT), Arjan Harxhi, said on Monday that Albania is in a flu epidemic situation and that the most vulnerable age groups are those under the age of 5, elderly and pregnant women.
"The situation should be seen without panic, but seriously. Flu is favored by the enclosed environments. The most affected are under the age of five, elderly and pregnant women. The only tool for protecting the population is the vaccine. The flu epidemic is expected to last during February, but is also predicted to be extended even in March," said Harxhi.
He added that the main symptoms of the flu are the appearance of temperature, muscle pain, headaches, eyes, throat, vomiting, diarrhea or cholera. But, according to him, the appearance of symptoms such as bruising, large vomiting, or high temperature requires immediate intervention by the doctor.
Currently in Albania, are circulating two viruses B and AH1N1.
