A number of actors, pedagogues and theater students gathered one day ago in ‘Black Box’ hall, in the Academy of Arts premises, objecting the displacement of National Theater to the new stage named ‘Turbine’ and the new draft for art and culture.
Through a petition signed by 74 artists, including the great Robert Ndrenika, they asked from the Minister of Culture Mirela Kumbaro the abrogation of similar decisions that would generate serious consequences for the Albanian theater.
“The existing theater is our asset, citizens’ asset, the old artists’ asset. Mosques and churches are being currently constructed in Tirana, but theater is Albanians church. We should not allow the destruction of theater’s premises without a clear explanation of what’s going to happen in the future. The new building named ‘Turbine’ is ridicule. It can’t be used as theater. The only possible use is that of a hall for electoral rallies,” said Ndrenika speaking to journalists.
The artists warned that if these requests will generate no reaction by the government they would escalate the protest until a full boycott of the theater’s stage.
