Albania loses two historical bridges in a week. Ater the collapse of the Hoshteva Bridge in Zagoria, another first-class cultural monument bridge in Orgocka, part of Kolonja district collapsed.
The 300-years old bridge that represented a rare engineering work collapsed due to the heavy rains of these last days.
This bridge, constructed during the Ottoman period, had been partially damaged during the ‘80s but it was completely destroyed a few days ago due to the Osum river overflow.
In spite of the fact that the bridge’s problematic conditions were widely known no restoration project was ever implemented. According to the specialists the damage is irreparable because the bridge lost the monumental value.
This bridge was an important element for the surrounding villages because it enabled their connection with the rest of the district.
