Albanians are paying less attention to the books on a daily basis. The number of visitors in National Library has been rapidly decreasing recently. The latest data released by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) indicate that only 88.032 readers entered the country’s largest library during 2017, registering a decrease of 41.3% compared to 2016 when the number of readers went up to 150.086.
The effects of digital era are seen as the origin of this drastic decrease, on view of the fact that people are more and more inclined toward alternative reading methods.
Meantime the attendance rates remain relatively high in other cultural institutions like the National Theater, National Opera and Ballet Theater or the National Gallery of Arts, a trend that is expected to continue even during 2018.
