The violence against women in Albania reached alarming figures during 2017. Some 10 women were murdered in various episodes of domestic violence. Although this figure is 7% lower compared to the past year it remains highly worrisome if compared to the country's population of 2.9 Million inhabitants.

The latest data released by the State Police indicate that two males are arrested on a daily basis on grounds of domestic violence while one in three women experiences physical violence at home during her conjugal life.

Around 90% of murders related to domestic violence are committed by men. The police also report that majority of domestic violence episodes are not made denounced by the victims due to the fact that they sees the violence as a private matter and not a issue related to their rights that involves the state and the community.
