Shkodra, 244 Years Old Mosque to Be Restored

'The Leaden Mosque', one of Shkodra's most ancient and particular premises, will soon become subject to restoration. The announcement was given by the Minister of Culture, Mirela Kumbaro who declared that this monument of culture of the first category will soon regain its original image thanks to a cooperation agreement with Turkish Agency TIKA.
Kumbaro declared that this is not an easy process thus it might need some times to be completed, even due to the fact that the construction of an embankment preventing mosques flooding will forego to the restoration process.
The Leaden Mosque was constructed in 1773 with an Ottoman architecture by Mehmet Pasha Bushatlliu (The Elder), the founder of the known family that ruled this region during many years, near Rozafas Castle. The mosques name originates from the fact that the walls were decorated with leaden plates.
