The Attorney General Adriatik Llalla mandate officially expired. On view of this fact the Legal Issues, Public Administration and Human Rights Committee announced on Thursday the opening of procedures for the election of a temporary Attorney General within a 30-days period of time. The provisional Attorney General will play this role until Llallas successor is elected by the Prosecutions High Council which has not yet been constituted.
The Socialist MP, Ulsi Manja, at the same time the Laws committee chair, declared that no qualified majority of 84 MPs is needed for the Attorney General election, adding that the votes of 71 MPs are sufficient.
A 5-days deadline is expected to be defined by the Laws committee for documents presentation by the candidates running for this position and it will be followed by hearing sessions with those that meet the requested criteria.
The chosen candidacy is then submitted to the parliament in a plenary session and according to the transitory disposition is expected to be approved with 71 votes.
