'Berati's Purple Codex' Becomes Part of US Congress Library

'Berati's Purple Codex', one of Albania's most important cultural assets of all times and at the same time a document with enormous value, will from now one become part of the US Congress Library in a digital format. An online copy of this book, written in 6th Century B.C, was donated to the US Congress Library on occasion of Albania's 105th anniversary of independence during a ceremony that started with Albanian and US anthems.
This solemn ceremony was attended by the Minister for Europe and Foreign Affairs, Ditmir Bushati and the co-chairmen of Albania-US friendship groups, Senator Gary Peters and Congressman Eliot Engel. The US Deputy-Assistant State Secretary Hoyt B.Yee was also present in this ceremony.
The excellent relations between two countries and their strategic cooperation were among the main topics of discussion during this activity.
'Berati's Purple Codex' is a very important manuscript that belongs to the early days of Biblical writings. It has a total of 190 pages, written with silver letters and includes two gospels, that of Mathew and that of Marc. The book is written in a purple parchment which gives also the name to this codex.
