Tirana mayor, Erion Veliaj defined the heavy rainfall of last night as the ultimate test for the investments in Lana River. Speaking to journalists on Friday during an inspection of the measures taken to cope with flooding he stated that the city did not experience the same problematic situation of the previous years.
"The fact that Tirana did not experience the same problematic situation is the best reward for the municipality staff and the work done during summer for Lana River bed cleansing. This was without any shadow of doubt the result of a long-term investment which aimed to prevent similar situation in the capital. On the other side this is the best answer to all those that opposed the removal of several communities that had been installed in proximity of the river," said Veliaj.
The mayor underlined that water supply for the citizens remains another main challenge for the municipality during this difficult situation.
"Some of the sub-station that guarantee city's water supply are currently out of order. It means that citizens will experience some problems until water-pumps are reactivated. I invite them to show a bit of comprehension on view of this problematic situation," said the mayor.
