Tirana's prosecution officially opened in Thursday an inquiry on Democratic Party (DP) in relation to the huge sum paid to a US lobbying company ahead of June 25 parliamentary elections.
A written request has been already submitted to the Central Elections Commission (CEC) and DP to hand over the financial documents related to the electoral campaign expenses.
This request is part of a verification process that is currently being conducted by Tirana’s prosecution of the payment of a sum of USD 650.000 effectuated through an off-shore company ahead of the electoral campaign. The prosecutors suspect that this huge sum was paid on informal basis.
Earlier the Socialist Party (SP) forewarned the Democrat leader Lulzim Basha indictment on grounds of money laundering in relation to the same issue.
