Internal Affairs Service Chief Subpoenaed by Prosecutors

The Internal Affairs Service Chief in the Ministry of Interior, Eduard Merkaj was subpoenaed on Thursday by the Prosecution of Serious Crimes. The subpoena served to Merkaj follows three arrest-warrants issued by the Prosecution of Serious Crimes for four former-officials of Vlora Police.

Jael Çela, Vlora police district former-director, Sokol Bode, Gjergj Kohila and another former-official of State Police have been declared wanted by the police.A fourth former-official of the State Police, whose identity has not yet been unveiled, has also been declared wanted by the police. Their disappearance since two days rose suspicions of information leakage.

Four former-officials of State Police are accused of corruption, involvement in drugs smuggling and abuse of duty. Prosecutors suspected that they supported Habilaj’s clan drugs smuggling network through their actions and non-actions.
