NFA, Crackdown on Illegal Slaughterhouses

The National Food Authority has undertaken a major crackdown on illegal slaughterhouses throughout the country’s territory. The main goal of this large scale raid is to prevent animals butchering and meat trading in inappropriate places which lack the required hygienic conditions.
NFA informed through a press release on Tuesday that some 94 illegal slaughterhouses have been closed down during this large scale crackdown that is still ongoing.
“Some 206 Kg of meat were seized in an illegal slaughterhouse in Domje village, part of Tirana district, while a fine of ALL 250.000 was imposed on the subject. Likewise some 106 Kg of bovine meat, 54.2 Kg of mutton meat and 9.3 Kg of swine meat without a certificate issued by the veterinarian and the quality stamp were seized in Poliçan, part of Skrapar district. Fines of ALL 100.000 were imposed on two subjects in Lushnja and Gjirokastra due to the failure to observe the hygienic conditions during meat’s quantity transportation,” NFA reported.
