The presence of a rare bird that carries the endangered status globally has been discovered in the Nivica Canyons in Albania. This bird is known as “Cuckoo’s Horse” and according to the experts only 80 exemplars of this eagle exist in the Balkans, ten of which in Albania. This news was given by the National Coastal Agency director Auron Tare, who published also some pictures of this rare bird.
“Nivica has the fate of hosting on its slopes with this bird of immense value which, apart from its ecological importance, may also play a major role in the development of environmental tourism. This rare bird’s protection should not only become a priority for the locals but also an obligation toward this ‘patriot’ that never abandoned his territory despite being repeatedly chased by poachers.
“Cuckoo’s Horse” is listed in the European Directive for Birds Protection thus Albania is legally obligated to protect its habitat.
