Democracy in Albania is highly endangered by the organized crime ties with politics. The Democrat leader, Lulzim Basha made this clear and direct declaration during a meeting on Saturday with the Director for Central and Eastern Europe of the American Democratic Institute (NDI), Robert Benjamin.
“Everything achieved so far by Albania and the reforms that serve to country’s development may be compromises by crime's ties with politics. The total dismantling of this Mafioso political system based on vote’s manipulation is the only solution for this difficult political situation,” declared Basha, adding that this may be done only through the establishment of an anti-Mafia government.
In conclusion he underlined the importance of biometric identification and electronic voting implementation as elements of vital importance for an electoral process in accordance to the democratic standards.
