The chairman of the major opposition’s party in Greece, New Democracy, Kyriakos Mitsotakis, urged to Brussels to keep an eye on the latest developments in Himara. He condemned the Albanian government most recent actions related to the demolishment of some houses belonging to the Greek minority which according to him is part of a new regulation plan for city’s promenade requalification.

“The Albanian authorities are violating the Greek minority rights,” stressed Mitsotakis, launching a direct accusation. According to him these actions are being followed by a national rhetoric from the Albanian Government, which is influencing the Albanian-Greece relationships.

“I hope that these serious concerns will be properly taken into account when assessing Albania's progress in the EU accession process,” wrote Mitsotakis in his complaint submitted to EU.
