Houses demolitions generate tensions in Himara this Tuesday. The inhabitants confronted the police forces when the National Inspectorate for Protection of Territory (NIPT) started the demolition of some objects paving the way to the city’s promenade requalification. The entire process is being closely monitored by the police forces aiming to prevent situation escalation due to the inhabitants’ strong objection to the houses demolition.

They have labeled the entire process as a genocide claiming that no indemnification is foreseen in accordance to the law. A few days ago they even refused to sit in the negotiations table with the Minister of Infrastructure and Energetic Damian Gjiknuri who arrived in Himara as representative of the government.

The Greek authorities have also denounced the plan for houses demolition in Himara defining it a pure violation of the Greek minority rights.
