Prime Minister Edi Rama toughened tones on the Academy of Sciences on Monday labeling this institution as a “rotten submarine stuck in shallow waters” that should no longer be financially endorsed by the state’s budget. While declaring that no more funds will be given for the salaries of a bunch of people that do nothing all day he stressed that government will invest for the establishment of a scientific library with contemporaneous parameters.

“The Center of Albanological Studies will continue to be financially endorsed by the government. Meantime the Academy of Sciences, an institution that still preserves the Soviet-era traits, should become subject to a reformation process. A fund of nearly USD 500.000 will also be allocated for the establishment of scientific libraries in the universities, these institutions registration in the global network scientific materials publication and free English language lessons for the students,” said PM Rama.

Earlier the government annulled a fund of ALL 110.5 Million foreseen for the Academy of Sciences in the budget of 2018 transferring it to the Ministry of Education.
