The mission of the Albanian Naval Forces (ANF) in the Aegean Sea, as part of a NATO operation is prolonged. The Minister of Defense Olta Xhaçka informed the journalists during an inspection in the Naval Forces Command in Durres on Sunday that the mission that was expected to be completed within December 2017 will last another year.
Such a decision according to minister Xhaçka is related to the very positive results that the Albanian crew of the "Oriku" ship has registered during this year while contributing in the search and rescue operations of immigrants in the Aegean Sea.
“Human contribution is what I value most in the Albanian Armed Forces (AAF). And the participation of our crews, so far with ‘Oriku’ ship but soon also with ‘Butrinti’ ship in the NATO operation in the Aegean Sea confirms this fact. Our initial commitment was to stay in this operation until the end of 2017 but only a few days ago we confirmed to the Northern-Atlantic Alliance that Albanian boys and girls will continue to patrol the Aegean Sea for another 12 months saving more human lives,” declared Xhaçka.
‘Butrinit, the 2nd ship of the Albanian Naval Forces to join this mission, will head to the Aegean Sea by the end of November.
