Tirana will have a new network of fruits and vegetables markets within next year putting an end to the phenomenon of agricultural products sale on the sidewalks. This promise was made by Mayor Erion Veliaj during the inauguration on Friday of the works for the reconstruction of the fruit and vegetables market in a populated district of the city.
"The Municipality of Tirana aims to give the chance to every green products trader to have a guaranteed place in areas dedicated exclusively for this purpose through the creation of this network of green markets within next year. This is the third green market that is being reconstructed in Tirana. The entire process of fruits and vegetables markets reconstruction aims to end once and forever the sale of green products in the sidewalks under poor hygienic conditions," declared Veliaj.
The mayor underlined that in addition to building the necessary trade infrastructure the co-operation of the citizens is also needed to end the products trade in the streets.
"This issue is solved through two steps: first, the municipality must do its job, modernize the markets providing a clean place, protected by the in rain and sun-rays, equipped with a proper electrical system, etc. Second, citizens must cooperate by refusing to buy products sold on the street, in the sidewalks or near sewers," said the Mayor.
