The Ministry of Finances and Economy, a mega-ministry created as a result of two existing ministries unification, will be given the largest share of the state’s budget for 2018 compared to the other ministries. A fund of ALL 60.86 Billion, the equivalent of approximately EUR 458 Million, will be given to this ministry directed by Arben Ahmetaj.
The 2nd ministry with the largest share of the state’s budget will be the one directed by Ogerta Manastirliu. A fund of ALL 60.12 Billion, the equivalent of EUR 452 Million, will be given to the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare.
A total fund of approximately EUR 910 Million will be given only to those two ministries during the next year. This figure is higher than 25% of the entire state budget for 2018.
The Ministry of Infrastructure and Energetic, despite the fact that it was recently created as another super-ministry will have a smaller budget compared to the above mentioned ministries. The budget available for this ministry will be only ALL 47.58 Million, the equivalent of EUR 360 Million.
The Ministry of Interior ranks in the 4th place with a budget of ALL 21.1 Billion. Fatmir Xhafaj’s ministry budget registers an 8.6% increase compared to the past year.
Likewise the Ministry of Defense registers a budget increase compared to the past year going from ALL 13.44 Billion to approximately ALL 19.8 Billion. However, this budget’ increase still does not manage to bring Albania in the same level with other NATO countries where at least 2% of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) is spent for the defense.
