The Democrat MP, Enkelejd Alibeaj urged to the parliament on Wednesday to authorize the arrest of former-minister of interior Saimir Tahiri by accepting the request submitted by the Serious Crimes Prosecution for his mandate removal. According to the Democrat MP Tahiri is involved in the international drugs smuggling due to his close ties with Habilaj clan.
"Strong proofs were presented by the prosecutors during the Mandates and Immunity Council backing up the request to authorize Tahiri's arrest by depriving him from parliamentary immunity. On view of the presented facts 4 Democrat MPs, respectively Çupi, Halimi, Strazimiri, Alibeaj and the Socialist Movement for Integration (SMI) MP, Nasip Naço requires the prosecution's request approval by the parliament," declared Alibeaj.
He also emphasized that the parliament's role is not to assess the presented proofs but to prevent the MPs from using the immunity as shelter in front of the justice. Alibeaj also argued that Tahiri's arrest would minimize the risk of proofs destruction.
