The number of poor people in Albania is relatively high. The latest figures published by World Bank through “Migration and Mobility’ report indicate that 6.3% of the country’s population, the equivalent of 181.225 people, live with only USD 3 per day. Likewise, according to the same report, more than 20.000 people live with USD 1.9 per day.
Meantime the moderate poverty, a living-level measurement of USD 5.5 a day is widespread in Albania. The International Financial Institution estimates that 32.8% of the population or about 1 million people finance their livelihoods by about USD 5 per day.
Albania ranks in a worst position compared to the other countries of the Balkans region. The percentage of the population living at about USD 5 per day is much lower in Serbia, Macedonia, and Bosnia. Even in Kosovo, the percentage of the population living in extreme poverty is lower than in Albania with only 0.2% of the total population.
