The works for the construction of TAP pipeline led to the discovery of the ruins of an ancient settlement dating back to the 6th century AD. This rare discovery, labeled highly important by the experts, was made in proximity of Berat, in Fushe-Peshtan village. According to them the presence of religious buildings in this settlement is an eye-catching element.
"This is an important settlement whose existence begins since the early days of 6th century AD. This site is characterized by a multitude of buildings used for public and religious purposes. One of them is a facility that we called "Church's chapel". The settlement includes also a public bath that belongs to a later period of time," declared the TAP expert for cultural heritage Lorenc Bejko.
He stressed that this is one of the major and most complex settlements discovered during the works for TAP pipeline construction. It will now be the turn of the Restoration Council and Ministry of Culture to take the settlement's fate in their hands.
