More than 4 decades of artistic creations of Albanian socialist realism will already come to be disclosed to the public in a special catalogue realized under the auspice of the National Gallery of Arts (NGA) in Tirana. Designed as a publication aimed at shedding light for a better understanding in one of the most important periods in terms of cultural heritage, the catalogue revamps on images a large part of the NGA funds.

The catalogue, which comes as a detailed survey of visual conducted by art teacher Ermir Hoxha, is not just a publication focused on the painting but also on sculpture, magazines, posters and everything related to visual art created during communist-era in Albania.

“I was most interested in the Albanian format of socialist realism as a world phenomenon and the topics considered treated are the history narrated through images. So paintings, sculptures or even other media images that are widely reflected in this catalog were those who were often used as illustration of Albania’s history,” said Hoxha during the catalogue’s presentation.

This 256 pages catalogue includes 315 images of works realized by 151 artists.
