Robert Elsie will rest in Theth. This was his last desire.
The Ministry for Europe and Foreign Affairs together with the German Embassy in Albania followed all the necessary procedures for transporting Robert Elsie's body to Albania.
His body will arrive tomorrow, Tuesday, October 17, 2017 at Rinas Airport, at 11:30 am, while the National Library will open the doors for the latest homage and honors, from 14:00 to 16:00.
Meanwhile in Theth village will be organized a special ceremony before the burial, on Wednesday, 18 October 2017, at 14.00, in honor of the dedication that he had Albania, its traditions and its native language by exalting its national values, culture and national identity.
In 1978, Robert Elsie visited Albania several times in the framework of 'scientific meetings' between the Linguistics Institute of the University of Bonn and the Academy of Sciences of Albania.
One of the most renowned and active Albanologists of the past three decades, German-Canadian Robert Elsie has passed away, leaving behind a legacy with over sixty books and countless articles, mostly devoted to Albanian studies.
Elsie is reported to have died in Bonn, Germany, of natural causes at the age of 67, in a premature death that is a big blow for Albanian studies and their international promotion.
