Albania's Expenditures for Bread and Corn Highest in Europe

The food expenditure covers the most of Albanian families’ budget. A large part of the incomes is used for the purchase of basic products like bread, milk, eggs, rice or even vegetables. According to the latest data made public by the European Institute of Statistics (Euro-Stat0 the nominal expenditures for bread and corns as percentage of Gross Domestic Product (GDP) were 4.9%, or the highest in Europe.
Albania leaves behind Montenegro with 3.9% of the GDP as expenditure for bread and corns, followed by Bosnia Herzegovina with 3.35 of GDP and Macedonia with 2.9% of GDP.
EuroStat data indicate not only that Albanians spend more for these basic products but also that this percentage is higher compared to 10 years ago.
