Some 28 licensed slaughterhouses were shut down in the framework of a large scale inspection undertaken in the recent days by the National Food Authority (NFA) inspectors. The poor hygiene was the reason that led to these slaughterhouse immediate shut down by the NFA inspectors.
The slaughter-houses which were obligated to interrupt the daily activity were located in Tirana, Berat, Gjirokastra, Dibra, Elbasan, Fier, Lezha, Kukes, Shkodra and Vlora.
Earlier two NFA inspectors in Tirana were also handcuffed on grounds of abuse of duty and law violation. The arrested inspectors issued a license for a slaughter-house in Baldushk village, part of Tirana district, despite the fact that this premise failed to meet the requested criteria.
NFA ensures the citizens that this is not a separate action but a process that ends only with the full reform of the entire food security chain in Albania, while warning that any attempt to reopen closed activities will be maximally punished in accordance to the law.
