The suicide's phenomenon is becoming a highly worrisome issue in Albania during these last year.

The latest data indicate that Albania went from an average of 5.3 suicides per 100.000 inhabitants during 2015 to an average of 8.2 suicides per 100.000 inhabitants in 2016. This sad fact raises the alarm for the society’s psychological conditions. The statistics even show that the number of suicides is three times higher than that of the murders.

According to the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) the number of people killed by others was 85, while the number of persons who committed suicide in the same year was 235.

However, despite this visible growth the suicides number in Albania remains lower compared to other regional countries. The statistics show that Serbia ranks on top of the list for the suicides number with an average of 19.9 suicides per 100.000 inhabitants, followed by Montenegro with 12.5% and Bosnia with 7.1%.
