The Saint Joan Vladimir church in Elbasan, a ‘Culture Monument of First Category”, is becoming subject to a restoration process endorsed by the Albanian Orthodox Church. The building dates back to the 15th century, and stands out for its special architectural values.
This church was restored years ago, but a series of problems appeared in the roof during these last two years as a result of the damages to the old pottery tiles and insulation underneath it.
The intervention is being carried out while preserving the authenticity and beautiful appearance of the building. The wooden structure of the 2nd floor windows will also become subject to restoration as part of this project.
A similar intervention is expected to be taken at Shelcan Church, another culture monument, which contains rare values paintings realized by Onufri.
