The construction work for the urban requalification project Veliera in Durrës have been temporarily halted, after the foundations of a centuries-old building were discovered, as well as an antique cannon and a cannon ball.
They cannot start despite the request made by the Durresi Municipality to continue.
Durresi Court decided on Friday to reject the request of the Municipality to continue with Veliera project constructions. Were some activist who complained in this Court against the construction which according to them will cover the archeological finds from the Roman period with concrete.
The archeological layers that have been made inaccessible contained, according to the National Council of Archeology (KKA), a Roman pillar, from the 2nd century CE. The finds were made a few months ago after construction works uncovered ancient remains. Archeologists have not been able to further investigate the site because of the construction work and traffic flow in the area.
