Divorces, Alarming Figures in Albania

Some 31 from a total of 100 marriages in Albania end with a divorce. The alarming figure made public by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) indicates that Albania has entered the red zone, joining the group of countries with a high divorce rate.
The experts say that domestic violence, poverty, emigration and arranged marriages are among main motives behind this high number of divorces. The womenís economic and cultural growth in todayís society, the differenced in the education level and gambling are also some of the reasons that lead to a divorce.
Countries like Italy, Greece and Turkey are in a same level with Albania in this aspect, while other Balkans countries have a lower divorce rate compared to Albania.
Spain and Portugal along with Benelux hold the record with over 60 divorces from a total of 100. Meantime countries like Chile and Columbia, along some African and Asiatic countries are part of the group with a low number of divorces.
