Albanian Population Shrinks Due to Birth Rate Decrease

The Albanian population is shrinking due to the birth rate decrease. The latest data made public by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) shows a decrease of 32.6% of the population natural growth compared to the same period of past year.

The number of births in the 2nd trimester of 2017 is 6,234, indicating a 15.4% decrease compared to the past year.

The lowest number of births is registered in Gjirokastra, only 83 births, with a decrease of 36.6% compared to the same trimester of 2016. The largest number of births is registered in Tirana with 2,013 births, a figure which however indicates an 8.8% decrease compared to the past year.
