The Albanian capital will soon be encircled by an orbital forest containing over 2 million trees. The implementation of this ambitious project, drafted by the Municipality of Tirana, started on Tuesday from Farkas Lake Park area.

Mayor Erion Veliaj declared the trees planting rhythm as part of this project will continue to increase during the next months.

The first 200 trees planted today in this area pave the way to a process that will continue until March. This process is part of a large scale project for the establishment of an orbital park in Tirana, declared Veliaj.

The mayor emphasized that in a city like Tirana, where the number of vehicles is over 200 thousand, the ratio of waste and pollution can be balanced by planting two trees for car.

"In a city like Tirana, with 200,000 cars and over 50.000 or 60.000 from other districts each day we need to plant 500,000 trees to nourish the whole effect and pollution caused by them," said Veliaj.
