The Albanian National Library (ANL) has made public a detailed report on the damages caused by a fire that engulfed underground floor 6-months ago. Based on the technical-professional work protocols some 748 library units (newspapers collection fund), 273 library units (magazines collections fund), 34 library units (foreign books/vocabularies fund), 1000 library units (foreign book fund) and 2.053 library units (the Albanian book fund) were destroyed due to the flames.

However, according to the ANL Director, Persida Asllani the damages are totally recoverable.

“The Albanian National Library confirms that neither the electronic database of national data, nor the premises where the rare works fund is preserved, nor the archive of the periodical Albanian book, have been affected, which means that none of the fire-damaged titles in the sense of use, it does not risk being gone forever,” said Asllani.

She also posed two major problems related to the lack of space since the late 80's and the fact that this institution is obligated to replace even the city’s library.
