Tirana, Neighborhood Encircled, Houses Demolition Begins

A security perimeter was set up on Tuesday by the State Police around the Shkoza neighborhood where dozens of houses are expected to be demolished.
The demolition process in this area is part of a project for roads enlargement. Heavily armed policemen along with a large number of Rapid Intervention forces vans were seen on the site while the journalists were not allowed beyond the security perimeter. Meantime the first houses demolition kicked off since morning hours despite the inhabitants protests.
The Shkoza inhabitants were caught completely by surprise after an earlier promise of an arrangement with the authorities.
Earlier they were involved in clashes with the police while trying to object their houses demolition. The inhabitants even addressed to the US Ambassador, Donald Lu and the EU Ambassador, Romana Vlahutin seeking their help for this issue resolution.
