Shkodra, Artistic Event Commemorates Mother Teresa

Mother Teresa sanctification by Pope Francis first anniversary was commemorated in Shkodra with an artistic event organized in ‘Migjeni’ theater. This activity, organized under the auspice of Shkodra District Council, started with a documentary on the life of the great Albanian Nobel prize winner and continues with songs and artistic performances. The actress Merita Smaja played the role of Mother Teresa of Calcutta bringing on stage a part of the drama “Mother Teresa, once known as Gonxhe”.

In his speech, Archbishop of Diocese of Shkodër-Pult, Msgr. Angelo Massafra, said that he is proud of the Albanian nation who gave birth to a saint as Mother Teresa.

Agnes Gonxhe Bojaxhiu, known as Mother Teresa, was born in Skopje on August 26, 1910 and died on September 5, 1997 in Calcutta, India. She was a well-known Albanian humanist, Nobel Peace Prize winner, and recognized throughout the world as a symbol of promoting relief for the poor, of peace and tolerance.
