Greece is progressively becoming the favourite vacation spot for Albanian tourists. The data has been released by the Greek authority on statistics, Elstat, which recently informed that tourists from Bulgaria, Romania, Serbia and Albania have surged by 115.6% between the years 2009 - 2016, and according to them the trend has continued in 2017.
The number of Albanian tourists in this period of time has doubled, from 234 thousand in 2009, to 491 thousand in 2016. This noticeable increase of tourists from the Balkans in Greece coincides with the deep economic recession that struck the country, which brought a drastic drop in prices.
Nevertheless experts emphasize that tourists from the Balkans don't spend as much as other visitors from European countries. The reason behind this is that most tourists from the Balkans have shorter trips to Greece, but also travel there more often exploiting the short geographic distance.
