5 Wildfires in 24-Hours, Houses Endangered

The Albanian forests continue to be engulfed by the flames. Some 5 new wildfires were registered during the last 24-hours in the districts of Shkodra, Lezha, Dibra and Elbasan. The situation is deteriorating in Shkodra district where a number of houses face the risk of being swept over by the flames. Maximal efforts are being done by the firefighters to contain the fires preventing situation further deterioration.

Some 45 firefighters and 5 firefighting vehicles have been deployed in the most problematic areas. 70 Army’s troops and 60 Forest Police forces are providing assistance to the firefighters in their difficult battle with the flames.

Helicopters intervention also became necessary in some areas where the rough terrain prevented the firefighters from reaching the blazes.

The Civil Emergencies renews the appeal to the citizens to immediately report any sign of fire in the emergency or police numbers.
