A drastic decrease of the online purchase is being registered during 2017 as consequence of reduction of the taxable border by the government.

The latest data made public on Tuesday by the Institute of Statistics (INSTAT) indicate that some 182 tons of merchandises were delivered by mail to Albania during a period of time between January and May 2017. This figure shows a 12.1% decrease compared to the same period of the past year.

Some 36 tons of merchandises were transported through mail during May 2017, a figure 5.3% lower than one year ago.

The online purchase decrease was expected to be verified since the entrance in vigor of 22.4% taxation for any purchase that exceeds the EUR 22 value. This additional tax includes the Value Added Tax (VAT) and other custom’s taxes. The government’s initiative came in a moment when the online purchases were in the highest levels. Record figures were being registered each month by the Postal Service followed by a continuous incomes growth.
