The Court of Serious Crimes issued on Monday the remand in custody security measure for Sajmir Cullhaj. He was arrested a few days ago on suspicions of being the author of a plot to smuggle three AK-47 assault rifles into Britain in a courier box through 'Mother Teresa' airport.
Cullaku continues to deny his involvement in the weapons trafficking declaring that he was only doing a favor to a friend.
"A friend gave me the package asking me to send it to Britain through DHL. I just did him a favor, without knowing the package's content," said Çullhaj speaking in front of the judges.
His friend, whose initials N.F. have been disclosed, has already been declared wanted by the police.
Meantime the British police inquiry aimed to identify the packages receivers and bring them to justice is already underway.
Police fear the guns seized en route to a London address were due to be used in a terror attack or organised crime.
Security staff found the weapons at the cargo section of Tirana airport moments before they were due to be loaded.
They were wrapped in towels and cellophane inside a DHL box also containing clothes and letters.
