The oil tanks of a private company were endangered on Friday by a huge wildfire that engulfed a forest area in Patos. The fire started only 100 meters from the large oil tanks increasing the risk of an explosion due to the extreme heat.
Luckily the firefighters, which were immediately deployed in this area, managed to contain the flames preventing them from reaching the tanks. Meantime the blaze remains still active and the work for its extinguishment is still ongoing.
Preliminary verification of the damages caused by the fire shows that around 4 acres of bushes and pastures have been completely burned down.
The police opened an inquiry to define the motives of this huge fire. Different leads, including the arson or the self-ignition of oil residues in proximity of the tanks are being followed by the inquirers.
