The heat wave that engulfed Albania since several weeks keeps encouraging new blazes in the forest areas. Some 7 new wildfires were registered during the last 24-hours in Tirana, Korça, Vlora, Shkodra and Fier districts, the Civil Emergencies reported.

38 firefighters supported by 7 firefighting vehicles and 45 army’s troops are battling with the flames aiming to prevent the situation from getting worst. Helicopters also provided assistance in some areas where the broken terrain impeded the firefighters from reaching the blazes.

Meantime dozens of acres of pine tree forests and pastures have been burned out due to the massive fires despite the extensive efforts of the firefighters to extinguish the flames.

The situation development is continuously monitored by the Civil Emergencies experts who renew their appeal to the citizens to immediately report any sign of fire in the emergency or police numbers.
