Shkodra, Man Held Hostage over Debt

A man, whose identity has not been made public by the police, was taken in hostage on Tuesday in Velipoja. Preliminary inquiries indicated that an unpaid debt was the origin of this grave episode.

The perpetrator, named Dede Gjikolaj and the man taken in hostage initially involved in a debate about an unpaid debt of EUR 4000. The situation escalated and Gjikolaj forced the debtor to enter in his carís trunk by pointing a gun at him.

He then managed to elude capture by the police by driving at high speed through a police road-block set up in Velipoja - Shkodra axis.

The police forces are now trying to get in touch with Gjikolaj through his relatives in order to convince him to surrender and free the hostage.
