Flames continue to engulf large surfaces of forests and pastures in Albania. The latest data released by the National Civil Emergency (NIC) indicated the presence of 8 new blazes during the last 24-hours in the districts of Gjirokastra, Berat, Vlora, Elbasan and Durres. Tens of hectares of pine tree forests, pastures and bushes were burned due to the massive flames encouraged even by the strong winds.

The broken terrain made it difficult for the firefighters to intervene in order to extinguish the flames. They battled for hours with the fire supported by a number of firefighting vehicles and some voluntaries.

The fire situation is being continuously monitored by the NIC experts who renewed the appeal to the citizens to immediately report any sign of fire in order to prevent the situation from getting worst.
